Spoken Pronunciation of Botanical Names

On each Plant Page, Photo Page, and Family Page, the botanical plant and family names are followed by a Speaker Icon . You can click on this icon to hear one of the ways that the name can be pronounced. Because there is no “correct” way to pronounce the Latin names, there is significant variability in the pronunciation of these names, even by the “experts”. The pronunciations in this interpretive guide are only acceptable examples.
